Performance and Rehearsal Plan
This show will open Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14th. Please be well aware of this going in. It is a love story after all! It will run by our typical schedule of 6 performances over two consecutive weekends, Feb 14th – 16th and 21st – 23rd, 2025.
Assuming we are able to assemble the cast by December 15th, we would like to distribute scripts and hold a read-through before December 20th. I know this may initially seem a bit aggressive given the coming holiday but hear me out. After the first read-through, we will arm each cast member with a character synopsis – age/voice/attitude/demeanor and send you off to enjoy the holidays with the understanding that you will be well on your way towards being off book by the time rehearsals get into full swing. This will likely take place sometime shortly after Christmas. Depending on availability, we may look to have small breakout rehearsals with certain groups of characters before a formal rehearsal schedule really kick in.
Given the nature of this play and the size of the cast, rehearsals for the first few weeks (say, until mid- to late-January) will likely involve segmented groups of cast members at different times or even on different days. You may end up with a day off here or there, but please use this time to study and build your character at home!
Audition information
Auditions for One Wife Too Many will be held in the OLT auditorium on Thursday, December 12th from 6PM – 8PM and Saturday, December 14th from 10AM to noon.
We will be casting for 21 adult characters (9 women, 6 men, and 6 flexible) spanning a wide range of personalities and backgrounds. Intimate moments do occur in this production. Auditioners under the age of 18 will require guardian permission and signature in order to participate in the show, but any minors cast will not be considered for roles involving intimate contact.
There will be very few costume changes. Primarily James and Alicia, who will essentially have one and a half.
Story of the Play
James Holden, TV star, is a busy man. He has just returned from his honeymoon with his 4th wife, or so he thinks. Turns out his first wife, Velvet, didn’t die in the avalanche 5 years ago after all. And his second wife, Phoebe, didn’t file the divorce papers correctly. And his third wife, Rita, didn’t sign the annulment. Rita’s current fiancé, Max, happens to be a mob boss and has decided to take the annulment into his own hands. Everyone has their own agenda as they make their way to James’ apartment. Max and his goons arrive and begin to take hostages as James is busy auditioning his sitcom wife and trying to manage his real wives. By the time everyone gathers in his now trashed apartment, James has to sort out four marriages, three gangsters, and cast the role of his TV wife, all while getting back the woman he has always loved.
